Grade Schooler : What Is The Best Age To Start Telling Your Kids About Sex Education
I have a 7 and 9 year old and they are starting to ask about various parts of the body, how babies are made and so on. What topics are age appropriate. I would rather tell them then to have them learn from some person, say other classmates or whatever that don't truly understand the whole concept of sex. ~~~ MJ Alantin ~~~
Grade Schooler : What Is The Best Age To Teach A Child To Trim Their Fingernails Themselves What Method Do Other Parents Use
Our 8 year olds daughter's fingernails grow really fast, and always seem to need to be trimmed. We'd like her to learn to do it herself, but she doesn;t seem interested in learning how to use the clippers, and doesn't have the patience to learn to use a nail file. Is there a particular method of teaching a child how to trim their nails that can be fun for them and motivate them to do it regularly? We'd like to know how some parents have taught their kids to do this and what age. ~~~ Ralph M ~~~
Grade Schooler : What Is Average Age For Having Simply Math Problems Memorized
My son does well in all classes but I have concerns about his math skills even though he is on target(here they grade by what the kid should know at the end of the year not what they should know at say the end of the chapter) I think that simple addition/subtraction should be memorized by now things like 12-7=5 and he insists on using a number line. We were using flashcards, workbooks ,etc from age of 3- end of 1st grade when he seemed to have them down pat. Any ideas? ~~~ billie b ~~~
Grade Schooler : How To Do I Get Kids To Do Their Hw And Not Be A Friend Or Angry Disciplinary
I recently started doing volunteer work at a community center. So far things have gone fine and the kids do not mind me, but I find that it is becoming harder and harder to make them do their homework. They seem to be pushing their boundaries with me and I'm not sure the correct response to get them to stop. Any ideas other than hitting them (jk) or letting them do what they want? ~~~ Kyle ~~~

Grade Schooler : How Do I Help My Step Son Cope With Change In Living Situations
I have an 8 year old step son. He lives with his mother during the week with his father I on the weekend. This has been his routine for 4 years as far as I can tell he has been ok with it. About a month ago, his mother moved in with her fiance he started a new school. Ever since they moved he has started doing little things he never did before. We've seen him sucking his thumb a few times he whines alot talks like a baby. I don't think there is a problem in the home or at school. He seems happy until he is asked to do something like take a shower or get dressed. If he wants something he talks in a baby voice. I think the problem is that he feels like he is now sharing his mother with her fiance he is looking for attention. Up until now it has been just him her in their home. I wish we could talk to her about our concerns, but she will be offended think that we are questioning her parenting skills. What can be done on our end to make him feel better? ~~~ cherub_1978 ~~~
Grade Schooler : How Do I Get My Son To Care About School
My son is 8 years old, in second grade, and he does not care about school. I cannot seem to get him to put forth the effort into things! I know he's smart, but he is very very lazy (not just in school, about things at home too). Ive fought with him, taken priveledges away, I reward him when he does a good job, but for some reason, he still does not care. He will make careless mistakes on tests and other things, not put any effort into his writing and penmanship. I feel like Im hitting a brick wall when trying to get him to do his best! He always wants help doing his homework when he doesnt need it (on good days he does it all by himself) but he doesnt want your help, he wants you to tell him the answer and he wont cooperate when you try to help him figure it out. How do I get him to care about his grades and put forth some effort? I know he can do it, I see it once in a great while, but not anywhere near often enough! ~~~ glddstgpsy26 ~~~

My daughter is 7 1/2 and for the first time has a best friend. They are really close and have long talks. The thing is, we have to move away in a few months. How can I help my daughter to cope, she's very sensitive. She has a difficult time when people move away, which is common for us since we are a military family. We've been in the same place for almost 7 years so it's not like moving has been common-place for us like it is for most military families.
