He isn't acting sick in any other way (eats normally, plays, flies around, gets attention and general background noise most of the day via the radio). When he's on his own in the cage, he spends his time nibbling at his neck. He now has no feathers around his neck. ~~~ JJ ~~~

He is depressed for some reason. Try to give him more attention. Visit the vet to get some meds to help his feathers grow in sooner. If you have been away recently he met have been sad and lonley. He just needs some tlc!

Answer 3I think it's a sign that he feels lonely ( I do understand that you give him a lot of attention ). But because parakeets are real group animals, he might still feel lonely. Maybe you can get another parakeet as a friend for him ?

Answer 5My Bird started and finished with this about two weeks took some chickweed and calendula flower,made some tea with it,and put it in a spray bottle to bathe him every day his diet as well,I switched to pellets with no soy,and I feed whole grains like amaranth,quinoa,spelt,wheat,rye,and soak these overnight,rinse,then cook for 40 minutes,and I sprout them as well by leaving them damp in a dark place,rinsing every 12 hours until sprouted,then cook and feed,as well as sprouting broccoli,mung,and other Richards Whole foods
