I always like to start with to get a reliable chart for yourself. I then like to download astrolog - it's an easy to use little program that let's you calculate your own charts. Robert Hand does the interpretations on and he has his own book of transit interpretations that's useful for getting an idea of what transits and relationships between planets mean. As for what paper, I just tend to print off the astrolab or charts on ordinary white paper, but I guess you could get as creative as you liked :-)
