You will need at least a BSN degree with a few years of experience. I don't know where you live as far as pay goes. Here in Ohio you can expect 50-60K per year based upon experience.

You don't have to have a BSN. You just have to be an RN to work in a neonatal nursery. Some facilities may want nurses with a BSN to work in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) but most just require that you are an RN and have specialized training in that department. I worked in OB/NSY for 6 years and although it was a happy place most of the time, there were times when a baby dies or is in critical condition that it was very hard to deal with emotionally. Be sure you find out more about working in a nursery before you make this decision. It is a lot of special training and you have a great deal of responsibility. Many OB units require you to be trained to work in all areas of the dept including labor and delivery, postpartum, nursery and the OR for C-sections. Also most facilities do not offer a difference in pay between a nurse with a BSN and one with a ASN or diploma. The best money in nursing is in Nurse Practitioning, Nurse Anesthetist, or a nurse manager or executive but these require a master's degree and many times a certification. Good luck!
