Motorcycle Racing. Do You Think MotoGP Will Suffer When Valentino Rossi Retires.

Sorry guys, for asking all these random questions - but am currently watching San Marino and it is quite boring - even the commentators seem bored (you would actually think they're commentating on practice rather than race, taking about fairing etc) I really think I would prefer WSBK or BSB at the minute. I agree about Jonny Rea in BSB. Would like to see him get the BSB title (Im from Northern Ireland too), but all the big names seem to be leaving next year - although I think Camier will be fantastic next year if his injuries dont hinder him (horrific crash!). Road racing season all but over here now dingo, but it scares the **** out of me. As Johnny Rea says, "they leave their brains in their toolboxes...." Have seen many a talent lost to the roads :( ~~~ Cheryl H ~~~

Best Answer To Motorcycle Racing Question

It will be a loss, but Moto GP will still be a great spectacle. There will be other superstars to take his place. I'm not saying that anyone can replace the character that is "The Doctor", thats a hard act to follow. But the racing will still be good. Sure you'll get the odd dull race like todays, but that happens in all classes, including WSBK and BSB. Moto GP is the absolute pinnacle of motorcycle racing and always will be, attracting the best riders from all the other classes. I personally think that Rossi will retire at the end of 2008 (as champion) in order to pursue his passion for Rallying in the WRC. I have a feeling thats why Fiat are sponsoring his team!

Answer 1

It's too early to talk about his retire! Valentino has too much to offer and if this season is lost, the next one he will come back, hopefully with better bike and better tyres! There are too many Rossi's fans so if you ask me, yes it will suffer. I'm sure that Vale will keep his life near the tracks and maybe will stay in his team (we keep seeing a lot of Schumaher in Formulan 1 despite his retire). I'm sure that when he decides to leave the racing life the true fans will keep watchin and will find their new hero! Right now I feel really bad after this race and as you say I find it a bit boring. The 125cc and the 250cc still are funnier to watch than the MotoGP class. I hope the new season offers something more intresting to watch...

Answer 2

It will be a great loss, but he signed for Fiat Yamaha for 2008 with another 2 year option, so we still have the man to watch for a while yet. Im sure he will do a Doohan and hang around for pits for another year or so after that.

Answer 4

I think Valentino will want to retire as champion and then will probably go to WRC but the Moto GP will not suffer as what with James Toseland joining Yamaha and Lorenzo moving up it will be interesting to see if they can beat Casey and Nicky will want to reclaim the number 1 next year. Think the BSB is good this year as Johnathan Rea is still in with a chance off winning the title.

Answer 5

it will survive

Answer 6

Hey Cheryl As I previously said - fell asleep about lap six (see your older question) so like you am looking forward to bsb and wsbk in the coming weeks. Like you I'd love to see Rea win this year (after being snubbed at Suzuka this year - would strain a few smiles back in Japan!) you get a load of road racing out in Ireland - do you get out to see it much? Or get better telly coverage than us on the mainland? You must be knee deep in bikes thais time of year LOVELY!! But to (finally) answer your question - a little sparkle may go out of the competition when he retires, but it will still be great racing no doubt. Hopefully he'll do a bit of comentating at some point - now that would be a crack!

Answer 7

no we willmiss him but it won't ruin the sport

Answer 8

No, it will change and adjust, like always. Rossi is a showman, no doubt, and a top rider, but he isn't the only one there. If you're getting bored, just get Australian citizenship, then you'll be constantly pleased.
