There aren't any alternatives. After the cataracts reach a certain point, she really won't be able to see anything. Her glasses won't help anymore. If she wants to see, she'll need to have surgery. I'm sure her optometrist/ophthalmologist has told her this. The surgery for cataracts is a very safe, very simple, out-patient procedure and recovery is fairly quick and she most likely won't even need her glasses very mich after the procedure. But, ultimately, the choice is hers and if she doesn't want to have it done, then she doesn't want to have it done. But, there is no alternative for her unfortunately. I'm sorry.

The procedure is very minor and recovery time short but the results are incredible. If your grandmother is uneasy about having surgery have her ophthalmologist describe the benefits and drawbacks for her. I hope this helps.

Answer 7Unfortunately there is no alternative for not having the cataract surgery. It is a very common outpatient surgery. I would urge her to get it done b/c the results will be so great. When you have cataracts - your eyes are looking through wax paper-depending on how bad it is. That is why it is worse in the sunlight. Ultimately it is up to her but she would see so much better having it done.
Answer 8No there are no alternatives. It is a very simple procedure and if she is otherwise healthy no probs. They can fit an artificial lens to replace the crystalline lens (in her eye). This is of great benefit as she will not require thick spectacle lenes. However you and she MUST take the advice of the ophthalmic surgeon dealing with her case. There are many factors to consider. Answer 10I am afraid if she does not want surgery her vision will just get worse until she is effectively blind. Delay is also potentially a problem as the retina may atrophy, if this is allowed to occur vision cannot be restored.
