Other Diseases : What Are The Implications Of A Hypotonia Diagnosis By A Doctor
My 13-month-old daughter was just diagnosed with hypotonia as she is not crawling, walking or pulling to stand. What no doctor can tell me is what kind of future she may have or how long she will require physio, occupational and speech therapy. ~~~ Tee-Dubbya ~~~

There are many different causes to hypotonia. Sometimes it is just benign hypotonia and goes away with PT. Why is she getting OT and ST? If she is having other issues other than hypotonia (ie speech, poor fine motor skills), then she needs to have bloodwork by Geneticist for genetic causes. Has she had any regression? You really should pursue this with different Drs (Geneticist, Neurologist, etc) and do some online research. My daughter was diagnosed when I found her symptoms online.

Answer 1hypotonia isn't actually a disease. It basically means that her muscles are more floppy than usual. There can be many causes, some of which are reversible and some of which may only get worse. If there is no improvement baby might need extra tests to find out what is causing it. If there is a simple reversible cause, it could be sorted soon after diagnosis.
Answer 2her muscles are under developed ther are many reasons that it can happen and there is no sure answer to give you
Answer 3The therapists can give you better info on this than the pediatrician or family practitioner can. Get her evaluated by all three therapies and they will be able to furnish a prognosis.
Answer 4my niece has that . her parents got much the same answer as you . i can tell you that the little girl is 4 and a half now and she does speak but this was only after a good deal of help from the speech therpy lady as well as work on the parents part. the child does not use the toliet yet she tries but she can not control the muscles well enough for that . so she wear a diper. she walks well . she is playfull and seems smart. she is a helper with the younger brother. she gets along with other children at this point and i think she would be fine with people except i can imagine that once she gets to big girl school the other kids will tease her. she does go to a day care now and this works great. at this point thats about all that i can tell you .
