Other Environment : How Do I Mentally Prepare Myself To Move To A New Place

I am not exactly changing neighborhoods (I always lived in Queens, NYC). I always lived in a small cramped apartment with my mother. She like to scatter stuff all over the place. We are finally moving into a new apartment. The apartment is bigger, but is in horrible shape. I just don't feel comfortable moving there, but I have no choice. How do I mentally prepare myself to feeling comfortable about moving into a place I don't want to? ~~~ Idealist Dreamer Realist ~~~

Try to think of something positive about the move. Maybe the fixing up could be a way to personalize the new place... Take comfort that you will be in a familiar area, you just have a new space to adjust to... not a new city or state. Yeah, moving isn't always exciting, as in finding a space you think is the best, but after awhile, you'll find it's okay. My husband and I moved from a 5 bedroom house we could no longer afford rent on to a 2 bedroom duplex in nearly the same area... it was smaller and not a straight wall to be had, but we got used to it. Then we moved to a 3 bedroom in another state... we really like this house and plan to stay here some time.

Do some fix-up work. Paint your room or put in some new shelves. Stuff like that. You'll not only make the place a better place to live in, your sense of pride in your accomplishments will make you feel more at home.
