Other Soccer : What Are Some Techniques For Being A Good Soccer Goalie
Okay I'm advancing from 8th grade to 9th grade and I want to continue playing soccer for the school. Now I realize that the difficulty from middle school to high school is going to make it a lot harder for me to make the team. My position is goalie. I need to know some exercises and techniques to practice by myself. I have a hard time diving for the ball. Im a little afraid of hurting myself landing after a dive so i also was wondering from experienced goalies, are there certain ways to land a dive and not get hurt? And also what are some good ways to practices long punts my punts are pretty far but I want them to a couple more dozen yards. Thanks for taking the time to read. ~~~ imaginarius92 ~~~

The most important thing is positional awareness, so that you're always giving the opposition the narrowest angles to score from without exposing yourself from the other side. The more you dive the more you'll learn how to fall. You're actually more likely to hurt yourself if you attempt to dive when you're scared as you won't be relaxed or composed enough to land right. Like anything else it takes practice. Just be as brave as you can and you'll get the hang of it. Best of luck.

Answer 4Low Diving--Stand with your legs apart and the ball in your hands. Roll the ball through your legs, turn, and dive. Start with slow and short rolls for easy dives until you build your confidence. Once you feel comfortable with that, increase the speed and distance of your rolls. High Diving--With the soccer ball in your hands(in the W position) pull off a high dive. Make sure you use the ground as a third hand. This way the ball will hit the ground before any part of your body. I know this exersize may worry you, but start off small and work your way up. This is one of the best methods of practicing by yourself. Always remember to dive on your side, and not your stomach. Landing on your stomach increases your risk for injury. You can't see the field that way either. Positioning and angle play in the goal is a huge factor in preventing goals. You need to make yourself as big as possible. 'Keeper is a NO FEAR position. When you start being afraid of getting hurt, that is the time you will get hurt. Strikers will take advantage of this. Good luck with your training and transition! I'm a 15-year veteran in goal.
